Lab Induction

All students and visitors must complete a lab induction before accessing Monash Robotics. Induction is conducted by your supervisor or someone they delegate.

General Lab Induction

Purpose: Safety walkthrough of the lab. Required to obtain card access to Monash Robotics.

Where to meet: Front of the main entrance of Monash Robotics — ground floor, hallway between Engineering buildings 35 and 36, Monash University Clayton Campus.

Duration: ~15–30 minutes

What to bring: A pen — you will need to fill in and sign the induction form on the day.

Process

  1. Your supervisor arranges an induction time and sends you a calendar invite
  2. Meet at the main entrance (between Eng 35 and 36) at the scheduled time
  3. Complete the induction walkthrough with your supervisor or their delegate (~15–30 min)
  4. Fill in and sign the lab induction checklist form (robotics_lab_induction_checklist_V2.docx) — bring a pen
  5. The inductor signs the form and scans it
  6. Upload the scanned form to the shared Google folder: OHS Safety Training Forms
  7. Email Dana Kulić (dana.kulic@monash.edu) with:
    • Student name(s)
    • Student ID(s)
    • Confirmation that the signed form has been uploaded
  8. Dana asks ECSE admin to grant card access — allow a few days

Monash OHS Training Needs Analysis (TNA)

You also need to complete the Monash OHS/TNA online module. This can be done before or after the in-person induction, but must be completed before you work independently in the lab.

Complete it at: monash.edu/ohs → Training

Restricted Area Induction

Some areas of the lab require an additional induction beyond the general lab induction. Ask your supervisor whether your project requires restricted area access.

Equipment Inductions

Certain equipment requires a separate induction before first use. Your supervisor will arrange this and walk you through the relevant Safe Work Instruction (SWI) for each piece of equipment.

Warning

Do not use any lab equipment before completing the equipment-specific induction with your supervisor. Always follow the official SWI — do not rely on instructions from other students or informal summaries.

Robot Booking Calendar

The lab uses a shared calendar to book robot time. Contact your supervisor for access.
